Preview:
Is the Giants ace back to normal? Giants and their fans are wondering after his spectacular start against the Dodgers to earn his first victory of 2013. Cain allowed just a single run on five hits, three walks, and struck out four over 7 1/3 innings to improve to 1-2 and lowered his ERA to 5.57. San Francisco will get their answer tonight when the Braves and Giants square off for the second game of a three-game series at AT&T Park. After allowing seven runs to the Brewers on April 18th, Cain has had three starts in which he pitched at least six innings and allowed four runs or fewer.
Opposing Matt Cain will be Tim Hudson, who is 2-0 with a 3.10 ERA in his last three starts. Hudson (4-1, 3.83 ERA), recorded his second consecutive win last Sunday against the Mets, compiling career win No. 201 as he allowed three runs on five hits, walked one, and struck out seven over 7 1/3 innings as the Braves beat the Mets 9-4.

Jonny Venters' mound session cut short:
Jonny Venters threw off the mound for the first time on Thursday after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection on April 2nd and felt some discomfort in his injured left elbow. Venters had planned to throw 20 pitches during the seesion, but only threw 10 before feeling the discomfort. Venters first felt discomfort in his left elbow in the final two weeks of Spring Training and received the PRP injection form Dr. James Andrews.  Venters has been on the disabled list since.

Side note:
Braves RHP Brandon Beachy completed his first live batting session on Thursday and if all goes well in his session on Monday, he could begin his Minor League rehab assignment on Wednesday or Thursday.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez missed Friday night's game and will miss tonight's game against the Giants to attend the college graduation of his daughter.
Tim Hudson is 8-4 with a 3.17 ERA in 17 career starts against the Giants.
Matt Cain is 3-2 in six career starts against the Braves with an ERA of 3.16.
