Preview:
While Kris Medlen has a respectable ERA of 3.44, he is in the midst of a disturbing trend. And that is the amount of home runs he has allowed in eight starts this season, including allowing three in his previous start against the Giants last Sunday. In 49 2/3 innings pitched this season, Medlen has given up seven home runs after allowing only six in 138 innings pitched last season.
Medlen will get the chance to redeem himself tonight and pick up his second win of the season against the Dodgers at Turner Field. Meanwhile, Chris Capuano takes the mound for the last-place Dodgers, looking for back-to-back wins in his fourth start of the season. The lefty was dominant in his last start against the helpless Marlins, going 6 1/3 innings while allowing  one run on five hits as he earned his first win of 2013. In the two starts before his dominating performance against Miami, Capuano failed to go 5 innings. His April 16th outing was cut short due to a strained left calf after two innings, and was sent to the disabled list as a result.

Heyward's return from DL:
Confident that Heyward was fully recovered from his emergency appendectomy, Braves activated their starting RF prior to Friday night's game and put him in the 2 spot in the lineup. Heyward responded by going 2-for-4 with an RBI, double, and two runs scored.
To create a roster spot for Heyward, the Braves stuck to their plan of going with a six-man bullpen, but instead of sending David Carpenter down to Triple-A Gwinnett, Braves placed Jordan Walden on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Beachy set to make rehab start on Sunday:
Braves RHP Brandon Beachy is scheduled to start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. It will be the first official Minor League rehab start for Beachy, who underwent from Tommy John surgery last June.

Side note:
Chris Capuano has had success against the Braves in his career, going 5-3 with a 2.75 ERA in 12 career appearances (10 starts).
Kris Medlen has also had success against the Dodgers, going 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA in 6 career appearances (1 start).
