Recap:

1st inning
Ross Detwiler got off to a great start as he retired the side in 4 batters, allowing a 1-out single to Jason Heyward. In the bottom half of the inning, Denard Span led off with a single and then proceeded to steal 2B. Span was brought home by a 2-run HR by Bryce Harper, his 5th of the young season. Two batters later, Adam LaRoche and Ian Desmond laced back-to-back singles with Danny Espinosa popping out to Evan Gattis to end the 1st.

2nd inning
Detwiler continued to cruise along as BJ Upton grounded out to 3B, struck out Chris Johnson, and got Julio Teheran to ground out to 2B. Dan Uggla and Gerald Laird forced walks in the inning, but were stranded. Teheran got into trouble quickly in the 2nd as he allowed a lead off walk to Kurt Suzuki. Detwiler bunted Suzuki over to 2B. Then, Teheran gave up a RBI single to Denard Span. Span advanced on the throw to the plate. Jayson Werth was the next batter and he laced a RBI single to score Span, making it 4-0 Nationals. Teheran struck out Harper and Zimmerman grounded out to SS to end the inning.

3rd inning
Braves bats were again asleep as Detwiler got Andrelton Simmons to ground out to 3B, Heyward to fly out to LF, and Justin Upton to ground out to SS to retire the side in order. Teheran finally settled down in the bottom of the inning by getting Adam LaRoche to ground out to 1B, Desmond to fly out to LF, and Danny Espinosa to ground out to 2B to retire the side in order.

4th inning
Detwiler continued to baffle the Braves bats in the 4th by forcing Evan Gattis to pop out to 2B, BJ Upton ground out to 2B and struck out Uggla to end the Braves half of the 4th. Teheran finally hit his groove as he retired the Nats in order. Kurt Suzuki led off with pop out to SS, a strikeout of Detwiler, and Span grounded out to 2B to end the inning.

5th inning
Detwiler at this point in the game was mowing down the Braves hitters. Although Chris Johnson led off the inning with a single, Gerald Laird quickly grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. Detwiler disposed of Teheran to end the half inning. After the strikeout of Werth to begin the bottom of the 5th, Teheran walked Harper who then proceeded to steal 2B. Zimmerman flied out to RF for the 2nd out. LaRoche forced a walk before striking out Desmond to end the inning.

6th inning
Andrelton Simmons popped out to 2B to lead off the inning followed by a Heyward ground out to 2B. Justin Upton absolutely tomahawked a ball to right center. The ball hit the railing above the wall and appeared to have been a HR. The umpires reviewed the play and ruled that it was a double. The next batter was Evan Gattis who had a chance to get the braves on the board, but Detwiler struck him out to end a potential Braves rally. With a high pitch count, Teheran pitched into the 6th inning and forced Espinosa to ground out to 2B, got Suzuki to fly out to Heyward in RF and struck out Detwiler to set down the Nationals in order.

7th inning
Pitching into the 7th, Detwiler quickly got BJ Upton to pop out to Desmond at SS, Uggla to fly out to Werth in RF. Chris Johnson finally got the Braves on the board with a solo HR. Laird grounded out to LaRoche at 1B to send the game into the 7th inning stretch. The newly acquired Luis Ayala made his Braves debut in the bottom of the 7th inning and retired Span, Werth, and Harper in order. Braves trail the Nats, 4-1 after 7.

8th inning
Tyler Clippard came in to replace Detwiler and quickly got pinch hitter Jordan Schafer to fly out to Harper in LF and Simmons to fly out to Werth in RF. Then Clippard found himself into some 2-out trouble. Clippard allowed a walk to Heyward, gave up a single to Justin Upton, walked Gattis, and gave up a bases loaded walk to BJ Upton to cut the Nats lead in half, 4-2. Drew Storen came in to replace the struggling Clippard and got Uggla to fly out to deep CF to end the threat. Jordan Walden came in to pitch the 8th and immediately gave up a lead off single to Ryan Zimmeran, but Zimmeran was promptly erased on the 4-6-3 double play grounded into by LaRoche. Desmond then singled and stole 2B. Walden forced Espinosa to ground out to Gattis for the 3rd out.

9th inning
Davey Johnson kept Drew Storen in the game to give Rafael Soriano the night off. That quickly turned against him when Chris Johnson roped a lead off single. Ramiro Pena, pinch hitting for Laird, laid down a beautiful bunt single and the Braves had runners at 1B and 2B with nobody out. Blake DeWitt who was pinch hitting for Walden laid down a sac bunt. Braves had runners at 2B and 3B with 1 out. Simmons struck out on a questionable call. Jason Heyward then walked to load the bases. Justin Upton hit a grounder to Zimmerman, who tried to go to 2B for the force out and threw the ball away. 2 runs scored on the play tying the game 4-4. Upton was credited with a single and a RBI. Zimmerman was charged with an error which allowed the 2nd run to score. Evan Gattis grounded out to Zimmerman to end the inning. Eric O'Flaherty came on and set down Suzuki, pinch hitter Tyler Moore, and Denard Span in order to send the game to the 10th.

10th inning
Craig Stammen was the new Nats pitcher on the mound and struck out BJ Upton for the first out. Uggla walked and Chris Johnson flied out to Harper for the second out. Ramiro Pena then laced the go ahead 2-run HR into the Nationals bullpen to give the Braves a 6-4 lead. Francisco struck out to end the half inning. Craig Kimbrel came in to lock it down and he certainly did so. Jayson Werth flied out to Justin Upton, Harper struck out swinging for the first and second outs. Ryan Zimmerman grounded out to Pena at 3B to seal the comeback win for the Braves.

WHAT. A. GAME.
