Game 9 Preview: Atlanta Braves (7-1) at Miami Marlins (1-7)

Probable Pitchers:

Mike Minor (ATL) 1-0, 1.23 ERA
Alex Sanabia (MIA) 1-0, 0.00 ERA

Preview:

Mike Minor picked up where he left off last season when he pitched into the 8th inning in his first start of the 2013 season last Friday vs. Cubs. In those 7.1 innings pitched, Minor gave up 5 hits, 1 run, allowed 0 walks, and struck out 7 batters. As stated before, Minor has had an incredible run dating back to last season. In 5 of Minor's last 6 starts, he has allowed one run or fewer and has also posted a sparkling ERA of 2.05 in his last 16 starts. He takes the mound tonight as the Braves look to complete their second consecutive sweep and win their 6th in a row tonight vs. Marlins.

Mark Redmond will send out Alex Sanabia tonight as the Marlins will try to salvage the final game of the series. Sanabia earned his first Major League win since September 22, 2010 last Friday vs. Mets at Citi Field when he threw 6 scoreless innings which included allowing 6 hits, 3 walks, and a strikeout. This may be the pitcher Jason Heyward needs to face tonight. Heyward is 6-11 with 2 RBI in his career vs. Sanabia.

El Oso Blanco's rise

Evan Gattis is off to a scorching start in his brief Major League career. He has especially flourished in the cleanup spot of the lineup with Freddie Freeman spending time on the disabled list with a strained right oblique. With Gattis recent tear, it is assumed he will become the primary catcher instead of the veteran Gerald Laird. Gattis made his third consecutive start behind the plate and went 2-4 with a towering HR to left center in the 1st inning of last night's game. He also ripped a double off Wade LeBlanc to left center in the 6th. This makes for an interesting decision for Fredi Gonzalez as Brian McCann is nearing his return from shoulder surgery.
