Braves and Nationals renew their rivalry as the two teams with square off in the first of a 3 game set at Nationals Park. Nationals took the season series in 2012, winning 10 of 18 meetings. Braves have won 6 games in a row and are coming off a sweep of the Miami Marlins while the Nationals are coming off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox. Fredi Gonzalez sends Julio Teheran to the mound for his 2nd start of the young season. In a no decision against the Cubs last Saturday, Teheran went 5 innings while giving up 8 hits, 5 runs (all earned), walked a batter, allowed 2 HRs, and struck out 2 batters. Ross Detwiler gets the ball for his 2nd start of the season. Detwiler pitched solidly in his start against the Reds allowing 6 hits and an unearned run in 6 innings pitched.

Laird to start at C, Gattis at 1B, BJ back in the lineup
With Julio Teheran toeing the rubber tonight for the Braves, Fredi Gonzalez went with Gerald Laird as his battery mate. Gonzalez wanted to have a veteran catcher working with a young pitcher like Teheran and understandably so. Fredi wanted to keep the hot bat of Gattis in the lineup, so Gonzalez plugged Gattis at 1B for tonight's game. Prior to tonight, Gattis had started 7 games at 1B in his professional career. Chris Johnson gets the start at 3B with Detwiler, a left-handed pitcher, on the mound. Fredi Gonzalez kept BJ Upton out of the lineup up in Wednesday's series finale in Miami to perhaps clear his head and iron out the kinks in his swing. BJ is off to a slow start, hitting only .103 with only a HR and a RBI to go along with 12 strikeouts in 8 games played. It is only a matter of time before BJ gets hot and when he does, oh boy.
